Baseball Wins on the Road at Southern Wesleyan
Mars Hill defeated Southern Wesleyan University, 3-2 Wednesday evening at Dr. Connor Stadium
CENTRAL, S.C. – Mars Hill defeated Southern Wesleyan University, 3-2 Wednesday evening at Dr. Connor Stadium. The Lions improved to 9-2 on the season while the Warriors fell to 5-4 on the season.
Evan Rogers, Rayshelon Carolina and Logan Conley led the Lions at the plate with two hits apiece. Rogers and Carolina each hit doubles while Conley recorded a RBI and a triple. Fausto Turro picked up his first win (1-0) of the season on the mound pitching in relief. Alec Bivens recorded the final three outs of the contest to pick up his third save of the season.
John Garrett and Devin Patrick both went 1-4 with an RBI to pace the Warriors at the plate. Roth Matthews suffered the loss (0-1) for SWU on the mound.
After Dylan Powers singled up the middle with two outs in the Lions' first at-bat, Conley tripled to center field to score Powers and give MHU a 1-0 advantage. SWU tied the game in the third inning after Trevor Walker scored on a fielder's choice. The run was unearned as Walker reached base on a Lion error.
Mars Hill took a 2-1 lead in the fifth frame after Rogers was sent home on a sacrifice fly from Powers. Patrick tripled in the sixth inning to drive in Matt Costa and knot the game again at 2-all.
Conley led off the eighth inning with a single up the middle. Dalton Eisenbath then singled to right field to advance Conley to second base. Brett Brubaker pinch hit and singled to left field to drive in what would later prove to be the deciding run after Conley crossed the plate. Solid pitching by Gainer and Bivens sealed the win for the Lions.
Mars Hill will play a double-header at Brevard on Saturday beginning at noon. The games are non-conference contests.
