Baseball Falls to Lenoir-Rhyne

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions lost to Lenoir-Rhyne, 9-1 in South Atlantic Conference baseball action Sunday afternoon at Henderson Field. Mars Hill fell to 14-8 on the season and an even 3-3 in the league. The Bears improved to 15-4 overall, 2-1 in the SAC.
Dylan Powers led the Lions offensively going 2-3 at the plate with a double and a RBI. Tom Mastrodonato took the loss (3-1) for MHU on the mound.
Matthew De La Rosa led the Bears at the plate going 3-4 with a homerun, six RBI and two runs scored. Justin Dean was 2-3 with a double and a RBI. Landon Whitson picked up the win (2-1) throwing five innings allowing just two hits and one run.
De La Rosa gave the Bears an early lead belting a three-run homerun in the first inning. L-R added two runs in the second inning on three hits. Powers doubled in the third inning to drive in Rayshelon Carolina for the Lions only run of the game. The Bears added two runs in the fourth frame one hit and two Lion miscues. L-R finished the scoring in the fifth inning when Dean singled to right field to plate David Newcomer and then Dean later scored on a bases loaded walk.
Mars Hill will host Southern Wesleyan on Tuesday, March 8. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
