Baseball Wins Slugfest at Young Harris
The Lions’ baseball team won a slugfest at Young Harris 20-12 Tuesday afternoon at Miller Field
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Lions' baseball team won a slugfest at Young Harris 20-12 Tuesday afternoon at Miller Field. Mars Hill improved to 19-8 while Young Harris fell to 8-14 on the season. The teams combined for 35 hits in the game.
Rayshelon Carolina went 4-5 at the plate to lead the Lions offensively. He recorded three RBI, two doubles and three runs scored. Brett Brubaker and Logan Conley added three hits apiece. Drayden Williams tallied two hits and three RBI while Evan Rogers hit a homerun. Joshua Epley picked up his first win (1-0) of the season throwing the final 2.2 innings in relief.
Mars Hill scored three runs in the second inning on three hits and one error. Hunter Merrill had a two-RBI single in the at-bat. YHC scored two runs in the bottom half of the second inning before the Lions tacked on five runs in the third inning on three hits highlighted by a solo homerun from Rogers.
The Lions added a single run in the fourth frame and then Young Harris added two runs in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 9-4. MHU scored two runs in the fifth inning on one hit and two YHC miscues before giving up four runs in the bottom of the fifth to trim the deficit to 10-8.
Mars Hill added three more runs in the sixth inning on two hits and one error before YHC scored their final four runs in the seventh inning on four hits and one Lion error. Epley held Young Harris scoreless the remainder of the game while the Lions' offense recorded six insurance runs in the eighth inning to make the final tally 20-12 in favor of the visitors. Dustin Jones and Williams each had two-RBI singles to highlight the at-bat.
The teams will meet again tomorrow at Miller Field. The first pitch is set for 3 p.m.
