Rogers Breaks Homerun Record in Win Over Montreat
Evan Rogers broke the Mars Hill school record for homeruns in a single season to lead the Lions to a 13-5 win over Montreat on Wednesday afternoon
MARS HILL, N.C. – Evan Rogers broke the Mars Hill school record for homeruns in a single season to lead the Lions to a 13-5 win over Montreat on Wednesday afternoon at Henderson Field. MHU improved to 27-18 overall while the Cavaliers fell to 11-34 on the season.
Rogers went 3-5 at the plate with two homeruns, a triple, six RBI and three runs scored. He entered the contest with 17 homeruns for the 2016 campaign that had earlier tied the existing school record. His two homeruns today put him in sole possession of the MHU single season record with 19 total.
Dylan Powers and Logan Conley had two hits apiece including homeruns of their own. Rayshelon Carolina and Brett Brubaker also tallied two hits apiece in the win. Patrick Riehl picked up the win (2-1) for the Lions on the mound.
Dylan Jones led Montreat offensively going 2-5 with a RBI. Jacob Veliz suffered the loss (0-8) on the mound for the Cavaliers.
Eisenbath hit a solo homerun in the second inning to give MHU a 1-0 lead before Rogers hit a two-run shot to left-center field to extend the Lions' advantage to 3-0.
Rogers then blasted a three-run homerun to left field in the fourth frame to give the Lions a 6-0 lead. Mars Hill added three more runs in the fifth inning on five hits and one Montreat error to lead 9-0. Conley hit a two-run homerun in the at-bat.
Montreat scored all five of their runs in the eighth inning on four hits and two Lion errors highlighted by a two-RBI double from Antonio Muniz. The Lions answered scoring four runs in the bottom half of the eighth inning on the same number of hits. Powers belted a two-run homerun in the Lions' last at-bat of the game to make the final tally 13-5 in favor of the hosts.
Mars Hill will host Bluefield State for a double-header on Saturday at Henderson Field. The first game is set to begin at 1 p.m. Mars Hill will recognize their senior players prior to the first contest.
