Baseball Wins at King
Mars Hill defeated King on the road in non-conference baseball action 11-5 Wednesday afternoon
BRISTOL, Tenn. – Mars Hill defeated King on the road in non-conference baseball action 11-5 Wednesday afternoon. The Lions improved to 22-10 on the season while the Tornado fell to 10-19 on the year.
Evan Rogers went 2-6 at the plate with a homerun, a double and three RBI to lead MHU offensively. Rogers leads the South Atlantic Conference with 12 homeruns on the season, he is sixth in the league in RBI. Logan Conley followed going 2-4 with a homerun and three RBI. Dalton Eisenbath also had a good day at the plate going 3-4 with a RBI. Tyler Sides picked up his second win (2-0) of the season throwing six innings.
Ryan Saltz led King with two hits and a homerun. P.J. O'Brien suffered the loss (1-4) on the mound for King.
A double by Rogers in the third inning sent Matt Honeycutt to the plate to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Mars Hill then exploded for six runs on seven hits and one King error in the fourth inning to take a 7-0 advantage. Phillip Carroll had a two-RBI double in the at-bat and Rogers belted a two-run homerun.
King scored a single run in the fifth frame, three runs in the seventh inning and added their final run in the eighth inning to cut their deficit to two runs (7-5). The Lions added four insurance runs in the ninth inning to make the final tally 11-5 in favor of the visitors. Conley belted a three-run homer in the at-bat.
Mars Hill will play a three-game SAC series at Catawba this weekend. The teams will meet for a single game on Friday at 6 p.m. and then play a double-header on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
