Baseball Drops a 9-3 Decision at North Greenville

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Lions baseball team lost a 9-3 decision at North Greenville Tuesday afternoon at Ashmore Field. Mars Hill fell to 11-4 overall while the Crusaders improved to 5-6 on the season.
Evan Rogers led the Lions at the plate going 2-3 with a homerun, a double, two RBI and a run scored. Dylan Powers followed going 2-3 at the plate. Lane Grant suffered the loss (0-1) for Mars Hill pitching in relief.
Jae Roberts led the Crusaders offensively with two homeruns in four at-bats. Mitchell Painter went 2-3 with a homerun, a double and three RBI. Mike Gilroy picked up the win (1-0) for the Crusaders on the mound throwing 0.1 innings in relief.
Back-to-back homeruns by Roberts and Nathaniel Maggio gave the Crusaders a 2-0 lead after one inning of play. Evan Rogers led the Lions' fourth at-bat off with a homerun to left-center field to cut the deficit to 2-1. Mars Hill then took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning when Christian Stampler scored on a sacrifice fly by Logan Conley and then Rogers doubled down the left field line to plate Rayshelon Carolina.
Roberts hit his second homerun of the game in the sixth inning to tie the contest at 3-all. Bennett Hill hit a two-RBI single in the seventh frame to score what would later prove to be the game winning runs. The Crusaders added four insurance runs on two hits and one Lion error to make the final tally 9-3 in favor of the hosts. The inning was highlighted by a three-run homerun by Painter.
Mars Hill will host Wingate in a three-game South Atlantic Conference series this weekend at Henderson Field. The teams will play a single game at 1 p.m. on Friday and then meet for a double-header on Saturday beginning at noon.
