Baseball Splits at Brevard
The Lions split a double-header at Brevard in non-conference action Saturday afternoon
BREVARD, N.C. – The Lions split a double-header at Brevard in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Gil Coan Field. The Lions won the first game 9-6 and then fell 10-0 in the nightcap. Mars Hill is now 10-3 on the season while the Tornados took their season record to 5-6.
Game 1: Mars Hill 9, Brevard 6
The Lions overcame a 5-0 deficit in the first game. Dylan Powers went 2-4 with a homerun, four RBI and two runs scored to lead the Lions at the plate. Rayshelon Carolina followed going 3-4 with two runs and one RBI. Dalton Eisenbath also recorded three hits in the win. Alec Bivens threw the final 2.1 innings to pick up his first win of the season on the mound. He allowed no runs and only two hits while striking out the same number of batters.
Ryan Smith led Brevard with three hits, two runs scored and a RBI. Kyle Morrison, Matthew Proffitt and Josh Hall recorded two hits apiece. Morrison added a pair of RBI. Kyle Pittman suffered the loss (1-1) for the Tornados pitching in relief.
The Tornados scored four runs in the third inning on five hits and one Lion error. The inning was highlighted by a RBI double by Proffitt.
Pat Quinn scored from third base on a wild pitch in the sixth inning to give Brevard a 5-0 advantage. Mars Hill then exploded for five runs on six hits and one Brevard miscue to knot the contest at 5-all. After Brevard scored a single run in the bottom half of the seventh inning, the Lions put the game away in their eighth at-bat scoring four runs on three hits and one Tornado error. Powers belted a three-run homerun in the at-bat to seal the win for the Lions.
Game 2: Brevard 10, Mars Hill 0
The Lions did not fare as well in game two as Brevard won the second game of the day 10-0. Eisenbath, Phillip Carroll and Drayden Williams had a hit a piece to pace MHU offensively. Hunter Boydston took the loss (2-1) on the hill for the Lions.
Brayden Morris led Brevard going 3-3 with two runs scored and a RBI. Smith and Teke Scudder notched two RBI each in the contest. Tyler Luneke threw a complete game allowing just three hits while striking out four batters to pick up the win (1-0) on the mound. Brevard managed to score in all their at-bats en route to the victory.
The teams will conclude the three-game series tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
