GOLDSBORO, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (2-0) defeated Mount Olive (0-1) by a score of 2-1 Saturday afternoon on the road.
All scoring took place in the first 45 minutes of play. Peter Plougmand netted his third of the season in the 19th minute with Diego Fernandez picking up his second assist of the campaign.
In the 38th minute, Plougmand and Braxton Robinson led a two-on-one rush down the pitch. Plougmand slid the ball over to Robinson, who finished the play with a shot from the right-side of the box to score his first of the season.
Less than two minutes later, the Trojans were awarded a penalty which was converted by Babacar Fall, cutting the Lions' lead down to one. It was their lone shot of the half.
Mount Olive launched seven shots in the second half, three on target. They were all stopped by James Price as he earned his second win of the season.
Plougmand led all players with three points and three shots on target. Robinson followed up with two points and three shot attempts.
The Lions return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 11 when they face Lees-McRae on the road. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
