JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (5-2-1, 2-2 SAC) secured a solid 5-1 victory against Carson-Newman (2-5-3, 1-3-1 SAC) Saturday afternoon on the road.
The scoring opened in the first half with Carson-Newman's Ben Dukes finding the back of the net at 21:26, giving them an early lead.
Mars Hill quickly responded, with Peter Plougmand scoring just eight minutes later to tie the contest at one. Kai Stolp was credited with the assist. Just over five minutes later, with 9:58 left in the half, Plougmand scored his second of the game, an unassisted strike to put the Lions up 2-1 entering the half.
The second half saw Mars Hill and Plougmand maintain their momentum as he completed the natural hat-trick just 1:24 into the half. He later set up Adrian Faus for a goal at 50:26, extending the lead to 4-1. Nolan McMillen capped off the scoring for Mars Hill with an unassisted goal at 68:59, solidifying their victory.
Plougmand led all players with five shots, three goals, and seven points. Faus and Sam Bayly added two shots apiece for the Lions.
Goalkeeper Logan Cassel made four saves for his first collegiate win. Carson-Newman's Federico Simonetti faced nine shots and recorded four saves.
The Lions return to action on Wednesday October 16 when they take on Lenoir-Rhyne at home. Kickoff is set at 7:30 pm.
