WINGATE, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (4-2-2, 1-2 SAC) was defeated by No. 17 Wingate (5-2-1, 3-2 SAC) by a score of 2-1 Wednesday night.
The first half was competitive, with both teams creating multiple opportunities. Mars Hill struck first with a goal from Peter Plougmand in the 28th minute, assisted by Adrian Faus. Plougmand's seventh of the season was his 100th career point, making him the first Lion in over 25 years to reach the milestone.
In the second half, Wingate's Pedro Santos found the net in the 47th minute, equalizing the score at 1-1. Mars Hill gave up a penalty kick in the 50th minute, which Pablo Pozos successfully converted, bringing the score to 2-1 for the Bulldogs.
Mars Hill finished the match with 24 shot attempts, nine on target, but Wingate's goalkeeper Moritz Conrad made eight crucial saves. Defensively, Mars Hill allowed six shots on target, with goalkeeper Logan Cassel making four saves in his first start of the season.
