
Plougmand nets two in Lions' season-opening win over King

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (1-0) defeated King (0-1) by a score of 2-1 Thursday night at home inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
Mars Hill opened the scoring in the 10th minute as a header from Nolan McMillen was directed towards the head of Peter Plougmand, who found the back of the net for his first of the night.
In the 64th minute, Plougmand buried his second of the evening, cutting right and beating the goalkeeper. Ben Harvey made an outstanding breakout pass to Diego Fernandez, who then feathered the ball through two defenders to spring Plougmand for the breakaway opportunity.
With just 16 seconds remaining in the contest, King was able to break the shutout bid, banking a shot off of a Mars Hill defender on a corner attempt. Renan Caruso was credited with the goal.
Adrian Faus led all players with five shots while Braxton Robinson added four. Plougmand ended the night with three shots. Faus, McMillen, and Fernandez were each credited with assists.
James Price made two saves in the victory.
The Lions hit the road for three straight, beginning on Saturday, September 7 when they face Mount Olive. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
