
Mars Hill nets two second half goals to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne
Adrian Faus and Sam Bayly scored five minutes apart in the Lions' comeback win.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (6-2-1, 3-2 SAC) defeated Lenoir-Rhyne (4-6-0, 3-4 SAC) by a score of 2-1 Wednesday night inside Meares Stadium.
Mars Hill trailed 1-0 entering the half despite outshooting the Lenoir-Rhyne 6-2. In the 59th minute, the Lions tied the contest at one as Adrian Faus netted his fourth of the season. Assisted by Bruno Fornes, Faus drove left and struck the ball low, going towards the right post, beating goalkeeper Tomas Fontes.
Just over five minutes later, Sam Bayly blasted the game-winner from 25 yards out through the hands of Fontes. The strike was Bayly's third of the season.
Late in the first half, in the 40th minute, the Bears took the 1-0 advantage as Daniel Martinez bent a ball inside the far post from around 20 yards out, netting his second of the season.
Peter Plougmand led all players with six shot attempts, two on target. He was credited with the assist on Bayly's game-winner. Bayly added four shots on the night while Faus had two shot attempts.
Logan Cassel saw eight Bears' attempts, with only two on target. He made one save for his second consecutive win.
The Lions return to the pitch on Sunday, October 20 when they host Lincoln Memorial. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
