
Lions score six unanswered to flatten Wasps
Peter Plougmand nets 50th career goal, third hat-trick of season.

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (7-2-2, 4-2-1 SAC) netted six in their 6-1 win over Emory & Henry (0-9-1, 0-7-0 SAC) Wednesday night.
Despite outshooting the Wasps 9-3 in the half, it was Emory & Henry that led 1-0 after 45 minutes of play. Jado Masambeta scored his first of the season in the 33rd minute.
Less than three minutes into the second half, the Lions' offensive onslaught began as Cam Watts netted his first of the season, chesting in the ball off of a header from Peter Plougmand. Leonardo Sanches was credited with the secondary assist as he delivered the free kick that led to the goal.
Adrian Faus, less than four minutes later, scored his fifth of the season, pounding home a rebound. His goal was credited as the game-winning marker.
Plougmand then took over the game for a span of 6:22, recording the natural hat-trick. His first marker in the 71st minute was assisted by Braxton Robinson and his second, at the 76th minute, was assisted by Carrick Bromage as he potted a rebound off of Bromage's shot. He capped off his scoring tapping home a feed from Nolan McMillen. He ended the night with seven points (3g, 1a).
With his third hat-trick of the season, Plougmand scored his 50th career goal and currently sits atop all of NCAA Division II with 16 goals and 38 points.
Two minutes after Plougmand's final goal, the Lions drew a penalty kick and Nicholas Graves converted for his first goal and points as a Lion.
Plougmand led all players with six shots followed by five from Faus and four from Graves. Logan Cassel made two saves for his third win of the season.
Mars Hill takes on Catawba on the road on Saturday, October 26 with kickoff set for 5 p.m.
