
Grant named to All-Tournament team, Lions split day two of Ram Rumble
Katilyn Grant posted 23 kills over two days to land on All-Tournament team.
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (2-2) split the second day of the Ram Rumble, falling to Edinboro (3-0) in straight sets, but closing out the tournament with a straight sets win over Bowie State (0-3).
MATCH 1: EU 3, MHU 0
The Fightning Scots hit a match-high .400 in the first set with 18 kills on 45 attempts. They hit .265 on the afternoon as Makayla Neelands led the team with 14 kills. She added 10 digs for the double-double.
The duo of Katilyn Grant and Skylar Ogden led the Lions with seven kills apiece. Laela Jimenez led the Lions with 13 digs while Jada Cannon added 12 digs.
MATCH 2: MHU 3, BSU 0
Mars Hill came out with a purpose in the first set of their final game of the weekend, hitting .348 and holding Bowie State to just eight points. They took the next two sets by scores of 25-22 to close out the weekend with the win.
Jada Cannon led the team with nine kills, hitting .238 on the contest. Timmons Yates added five kills. Laela Jimenez recorded a team-high 12 digs and added three aces. Nikkayla Stewart also notched three aces in the contest.
At the conclusion of the tournament, Katilyn Grant was selected to the All-Tournament team. She recorded 23 kills while hitting .243 over the weekend, adding eight blocks defensively.
Mars Hill opens their home slate on Tuesday, September 10 when they face Converse. First serve inside Chambers Gymnasium is set for 6 p.m.
