
Mars Hill opens SAC play with 3-0 sweep of Wasps

EMORY, Va. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (3-3, 1-0 SAC) swept Emory & Henry (1-6, 0-1 SAC) by in three sets (25-21, 25-14, 25-14) Saturday afternoon on the road.
The Lions posted double-digit kills in all three sets, opening the contest with 14 and hitting .156 in the first set. The Wasps committed eight errors in the frame, hitting just under .100.
Mars Hill's offense was dominant in the second, hitting a match-high .361 with 17 kills on 36 swings. The Lions' defense also strong, allowing just six Wasps' kills in the second, a match-low.
Closing out the match, Mars Hill posted their second consecutive 25-14 set, knocking down 15 kills on 37 attempts. The defense once again stood firm, holding Emory & Henry to a match-low .053 hitting percentage.
Skylar Ogden led all players with 10 kills followed by nine from Ioana Poenaru. The duo of Jada Cannon and Nikkayla Stewart each added seven kills. Alyssa Kornegay led all players with 21 assists while MacKenzie Schmucker added 17 on the day. Laela Jimenez led all players with 18 digs.
The Lions return to Chambers Gymnasium on Tuesday, September 17 when they host Lincoln Memorial. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
