Lions face Wingate on Senior Day
Seven seniors were recognized prior to the start of the match.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (13-9, 10-5 SAC) fell to Wingate (22-2, 13-1 SAC) in straight sets Friday evening.
The Lions came out strong in the first set, leading late in the frame before the Bulldogs rallied to take the opening stanza.
Wingate rolled in the next two sets, hitting .321 in the second and a match-high .447 in the third, knocking down 20 kills en route to their 14th straight win.
Sydney Morland and Gabby Saye each recorded 11 kills apiece.
Jada Cannon led the Lions with seven kills followed by five apiece from Ioana Poenaru and Nikkayla Stewart. Laela Jimenez led the team with 15 digs while Mackenzie Schmucker led the Lions with 12 assists.
Prior to the start of the match, seniors Kaitlyn Johnson, Jada Cannon, Emma Vacha, Timmons Yates, Addison Easter, Nikkayla Stewart, and Cat Bodick were recognized and celebrated for their contributions to the team.
Mars Hill returns to action on Tuesday, November 12 when they host Tusculum. First serve inside Chambers Gymnasium is set for 6 p.m.
