Lions sweep season series with Coker
MHU secures No. 4 seed in SAC Tournament, will host Carson-Newman Tuesday night.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (16-9, 13-5 SAC) swept Coker (5-19, 4-14 SAC) Saturday night to conclude the regular season.
Mars Hill was dominant throughout the night, highlighted by their first set that saw the Lions hit a match-high .364 with 15 kills. They held Coker to just 12 points in the frame.
The Lions closed out the match with back-to-back 25-14 scores in the second and third, recording 24 kills over the frames. Defensively, the Lions forced Coker to commit 26 attack errors, resulting in a -.064 hitting percentage on the night. Mars Hill hit .204 as a team.
Jada Cannon led the Lions with 10 kills, hitting .250 on the night. Katilyn Grant added eight followed by six from both Skylar Ogden and Ioana Poenaru. Laela Jimenez led all players with 23 digs while Alyssa Kornegay led the team with 16 assists and four aces.
The Lions secured the No. 4 seed in the upcoming South Atlantic Conference Tournament, beginning Tuesday night. Mars Hill will host Carson-Newman inside Chambers Gymnasium. The teams split the season series with each team picking up road victories.
Due to South Atlantic Conference policies, no passes will be allowed at the quarterfinal as the Lions host Carson-Newman.
Per the SAC: "SAC Championship policy is that no one be admitted free of charge unless they have an Official SAC Pass. It will be the host institutions' responsibility to have someone at the gate to sell tickets and send the funds collected to the SAC office."
