
MHU wins in straight sets over Wasps, sweep season series
Jada Cannon hit .423 with match-high 12 kills in Lions' win.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (5-7, 3-3 SAC) swept Emory & Henry (2-13, 0-8 SAC) Friday night inside Chambers Gymnasium, completing the season sweep.
Mars Hill recorded 13 kills in the first set, holding Emory & Henry to just 10 in the frame. In the second, the Lions' opened up the frame on a 13-0 run and never looked back. They hit a match-high .394 with 16 kills in the set.
The Lions' defense remained strong in the third, holding the Wasps to their third straight negative set, hitting -.022 for the second time on the night and closing out the match with a -.032 hitting percentage.
Mars Hill blasted 17 kills in the third - a match-high - and hit .262 to complete the season sweep.
The Lions hit .259 as a team and recorded 70 digs to the Wasps' 47 on the night. Jada Cannon led all players with 12 kills, hitting .423 and adding 11 digs for the double-double.
Katilyn Grant added 10 kills and tied Cannon with a match-high four blocks. Laela Jimenez led all players with 28 digs, adding six assists, and one kill. Mackenzie Schmucker notched 21 assists, eight digs, and three kills on three attempts.
The Lions return to the court on Saturday, October 12 when they face Anderson on the road. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
