MHU completes season sweep of Catawba
Mars Hill defeats Catawba in straight sets, sweeping home-and-home series, extending win streak to five.
SALISBURY, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (10-8, 7-4 SAC) defeated Catawba (3-14, 1-9 SAC) in straight sets, completing the season sweep Saturday night.
With the win, Mars Hill moves their win streak to five straight matches.
The Lions posted 12 kills in the first set, followed by a dominant 17-kill second set, hitting a match-high .256. In the third, Mars Hill hit .190 as a team with 15 kills, winning their sixth set over Catawba on the year, advancing to 7-4 in the South Atlantic Conference.
Ioana Poenaru led all players with 10 kills followed by nine from Brooke Hoffman. Hoffman hit .368 in the match. Jada Cannon and Nikkayla Stewart added seven kills apiece. Stewart hit a match-high .636 with no errors on 11 swings, adding four digs and an ace on the night.
Mackenzie Schmucker collected 19 assists while Alyssa Kornegay added 17 in the match. Laela Jimenez led the Lions with 16 digs and Katilyn Grant led all players with five blocks.
Mars Hill returns to the floor on Tuesday, October 29 when they host Anderson inside Chambers Gymnasium. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
