
Mars Hill sweeps LMU for second straight SAC win
The trio of Timmons Yates, Katilyn Grant, and Ioana Poenaru recorded eight kills apiece.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (4-3, 2-0 SAC) swept Lincoln Memorial (6-3, 0-2 SAC) Tuesday night inside Chambers Gymnasium.
The Lions took the first set, 25-21, hitting a match-high .238, recording a match-high 15 kills. The duo of Katilyn Grant and Ioana Poenaru led the team with four kills apiece.
In the second set, Grant and Poenaru led the team again with three kills apiece as the Lions went up 2-0, holding Lincoln Memorial to a .023 hitting percentage. The Lions hit .237 with 13 kills on 38 attacks.
Closing out the match in dominant fashion, the Mars Hill defense was stout, forcing 14 Railsplitters' errors as Lincoln Memorial hit -.154 in the third. The Lions hit .207 with nine kills on 29 attempts. Timmons Yates led the team with four kills while Jada Cannon added three.
Grant, Poenaru, and Yates led Mars Hill with eight kills apiece while Yates hit a match-high .421 with zero errors on 19 attempts. Laela Jimenez led all players with 20 digs while MacKenzie Schmucker led the Lions with 20 assists. Grant led all players with seven blocks (1 BS, 6 BA).
The Lions take to the road on Saturday, September 21 when they face both Lenoir-Rhyne and UNC Pembroke. First serves for each match is set for 1 and 4 p.m., respectively.
