
Lions defeat Catawba in first of home-and-home

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (9-8, 6-4 SAC) defeated Catawba (3-13, 1-8 SAC) in four sets Friday night inside Chambers Gymnasium.
The Lions took the first two sets, holding Catawba to a .000 hitting percentage while the Lions hit .205. A back-and-forth affair in the third saw the Catawba Indians outlast Mars Hill, despite a negative -.021 hitting percentage.
The Lions hit a match-high .233 with 14 kills in the fourth to secure their fourth straight win and third straight in four sets.
Timmons Yates led the Lions with 12 kills and added three blocks. Katilyn Grant knocked down 10 kills and a match-high five blocks. The duo of Jada Cannon and Skylar Ogden each added seven kills and three blocks.
Mackenzie Schmucker led the team with 23 assists while Laela Jimenez led all players with 27 digs.
The teams will have their rematch on Saturday, October 26 when the Lions take to the road. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
