GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Mars Hill baseball team (8-13, 3-8 SAC) was defeated by Tusculum (11-10, 7-4 SAC) by scores of 2-1 and 5-3 Sunday afternoon.
GAME ONE: TU 2, MHU 1
The Pioneers scored two unanswered in a low scoring game one victory.
Mars Hill opened the scoring with a leadoff home run off the bat of Zach Weaver. Tusculum tied the game in the bottom of the third, scoring off a Lions' wild pitch.
Murphy Flood's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth provided the Pioneers the go-ahead and game-winning run, scoring Zane Keener.
Weaver recorded both Lions' hits on the day. Luke Absher struck out eight in 7.0 innings for the win. Seth Willis was credited with the save.
GAME TWO: TU 5, MHU 3
A four-run third inning propelled the Pioneers to the game two victory.
A Mars Hill error allowed two runs to score in the third. Murphy Flood's RBI single to right field tied the game at three. Later in the frame, Flood scored off of a RBI single off the bat of Omar Carreras.
In the bottom of the fifth, Jake Absher's fielder choice plated Flood for an insurance run.
Zach Weaver, for the second straight game, hit a leadoff home run to open the scoring in the top of the first. With the bases loaded later in the inning, Luke Hayes drew a walk to score Alex Naran. In the top of the second, Naran's RBI single through the right side plated Weaver to put the Lions up 3-0 after two.
Naran led all players with three hits while Weaver scored a team-high two runs.
Brady Salyards struck out six in 4.1 innings for the win while Seth Willis earned his third save of the year, striking out two in 1.0 innings thrown.
The Lions wrap up the South Atlantic Conference series on Monday, March 11 with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
