MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (2-7, 0-3 SAC) was swept by Lincoln Memorial (7-2, 3-0 SAC) by scores of 9-4 and 9-5 during Saturday's doubleheader.
GAME ONE: LMU 9, MHU 4
Mars Hill trailed 6-0 entering the bottom of the fourth. The Railsplitters put up three runs in both the second and the third, highlighted by two-run home runs off the bats of Cameron Bowen and Ryan Kurth.
In the bottom of the fourth, Carter Potts cut into the LMU lead with a two-run home run. In the bottom of the ninth, trailing 9-2, Zach Weaver blasted a solo home run. Later in the inning, Jaden James recorded his third hit of the afternoon, a RBI double that scored Alex Naran.
Both James and Naran recorded a team-high three hits while Potts led the Lions with two RBI. Brennan Williams threw 6.0 innings, allowing seven runs on six hits while striking out four.
GAME TWO: LMU 9, MHU 5
Lincoln Memorial scored six runs over the first four innings with Ryan Kurth picking up three RBI off of two doubles.
In the bottom of the fourth, Zach Weaver hit his second solo home run on the day. Following a three-run top of the fifth by the Railsplitters, Mars Hill's late comeback attempt in the bottom of the sixth ultimately fell short.
With the bases loaded, Alex Naran was hit by an errant pitch, plating Chris Bleeker. Carter Potts followed with a RBI single that scored Elec Yount. Another errant pitch hit Luke Hayes, allowing Weaver to cross for the third Lions' run of the inning. The scoring concluded off of a RBI groundout off the bat of Paul Martin, scoring Naran for the Lions fourth run of the frame.
Weaver led the Lions with two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored.
Nate Crissey struck out three in 2.0 innings thrown, allowing five runs on two hits.
Mars Hill returns to action on Tuesday, February 20 when they face Emmanuel on the road. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
