EMORY, Va. - The Mars Hill baseball team (15-29, 5-21 SAC) was swept by Emory & Henry (10-34, 6-20 SAC) by scores of 3-2 and 22-4 Saturday afternoon on the road.
GAME ONE: E&H 3, MHU 2
The Wasps scored three unanswered runs to take game one by a score of 3-2.
Trailing 2-0 after the second, the Wasps put one on the board in the bottom of the fifth. In the bottom of the seventh, after Garrison Bullock's RBI single tied the game at two, Caeden Howell's sacrifice fly plated the game-winning run.
The Lions opened the scoring in the second as Trey Putnam's bunt single allowed Carter Potts to score after a throwing error by Emory & Henry. Jaden James moved to third and was later plated off of Elec Yount's sacrifice fly to right field.
Steven Smith led all players with three hits while Mars Hill had six batters record a hit on the day.
GAME TWO: E&H 22, MHU 4
Emory & Henry scored 22 runs on 18 hits in game two, claiming the series and the Saturday sweep.
After Alex Naran's solo home run in the top of the first opened the scoring, the Wasps responded with nine in the bottom half, highlighted by Jared Foley's grand slam.
Caeden Howell hit the second Emory & Henry grand slam of the contest in the bottom of the fourth, putting the Wasps up 18-1. In the top of the sixth, Chris Bleeker hit a three-run home run to left field.
Foley ended the day with five RBI while Howell went 2-for-5 from the plate, driving in seven and scoring five runs. Bleeker led the Lions with three RBI on the day while Naran scored two runs.
Mars Hill closes out the series on Sunday, April 21 with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
