Mars Hill defeated by Tusculum in final game of series
The Mars Hill baseball team (8-14, 3-9 SAC) was defeated by Tusculum (12-10, 8-4 SAC) by a score of 10-6 Monday afternoon.
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Mars Hill baseball team (8-14, 3-9 SAC) was defeated by Tusculum (12-10, 8-4 SAC) by a score of 10-6 Monday afternoon in game three of their South Atlantic Conference series.
Tusculum led 4-2 entering the bottom of the fourth. The Pioneers added six runs in the frame with a pair of RBI singles off the bats of Luis Reyes and Jake Absher. Ben Scartz added a RBI double.
The Lions, in the top of the sixth, scored three runs to cut the deficit to five. With the bases loaded, an errant pitch plunked Elec Yount, allowing Trey Putnam to score. Alex Naran followed with a two-run single to center, scoring Zach Weaver and Paul Martin.
A Pioneers' wild pitch in the top of the ninth saw Preston Holcomb score the Lions' final run of the contest.
After the first inning of play, Tusculum led 3-0 with a pair of sacrifice flies from Absher and Murphy Flood. Mars Hill, in the top of the second, plated two, highlighted by Weaver's RBI single to right.
Putnam led all players with three hits while Naran led the Lions with two RBI. Brice Anders picked up the win, striking out nine in 5.2 innings thrown.
Mars Hill returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 12 when they face Southern Wesleyan in non-conference play. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
