
Lions take game two of Saturday's DH, splits with Wolves
The Mars Hill baseball team (12-21, 4-13 SAC) split with Newberry (16-17, 10-7 SAC) Saturday afternoon, falling in game one by a score of 7-3, but taking game two by a score of 6-4.

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (12-21, 4-13 SAC) split with Newberry (16-17, 10-7 SAC) Saturday afternoon, falling in game one by a score of 7-3, but taking game two by a score of 6-4.
GAME ONE: NBY 7, MHU 3
A late Mars Hill rally was quelled by Newberry as they claimed the weekend series.
Trailing 7-0 entering the bottom of the ninth, Chad Sikes' two-run triple broke the shutout bid. Sikes scored off of Toby Troutman's RBI single.
Newberry plated two runs apiece in the third, fourth, and seventh innings.
Troutman and Jaden James led the Lions with two hits apiece. Sikes led the team with two RBI.
GAME TWO: MHU 6, NBY 4
With Newberry challenging in the top of the seventh, the Lions' defense came up big with a 1-4-6-3 double play to end the contest and pick up the game two win.
Mars Hill opened the scoring in the bottom of the first off of Alex Naran's RBI double that plated Zach Weaver. In the top of the second, Newberry tied the game at one.
Toby Troutman put the Lions up by two in the bottom of the frame with a double to center that plated Chad Sikes and Elec Yount.
In the bottom of the fourth, Mars Hill ran their lead up to 5-1. After the Wolves plated a run in the top of the fifth, Weaver added an insurance run with a solo home run, clearing the scoreboard and road behind the left field fence.
Naran and Yount led the team with two hits while Naran and Troutman led the team with two RBI.
Peyton Kowalski picked up the win, throwing 2.1 innings, striking out four. JD Lewis picked up the save, throwing 0.2 of the seventh.
Mars Hill faces Anderson on Sunday, April 2 at 7 p.m. on the road.
