
Lions open home slate versus LMU
The Mars Hill baseball team (2-6, 0-1 SAC) opened their home schedule and South Atlantic Conference play Friday afternoon, falling to Lincoln Memorial (5-2, 1-0 SAC) by a score of 16-5.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (2-6, 0-1 SAC) opened their home schedule and South Atlantic Conference play Friday afternoon, falling to Lincoln Memorial (5-2, 1-0 SAC) by a score of 16-5.
Alex Naran opened the scoring for Mars Hill in the bottom of the first, plating Elec Yount and Zach Weaver with a two-run single to right. Carter Potts' RBI groundout scored Naran, giving the Lions a 3-0 lead after the first.
The Railsplitters plated four in the top of the second, but Mars Hill responded with two runs in the bottom of the second, retaking the lead, 5-4, entering the third.
Lincoln Memorial's offense exploded for 10 runs in the third, using the long ball on two separate occasions. Joey LaMattina hit his second of the contest, a three-run shot to right field. Later in the frame, Chris Hall blasted a grand slam to put LMU up 11-5.
The Railsplitters tacked on two more runs in the fourth and fifth and came away with the 16-5 victory.
Yount and Potts led the Lions with two hits apiece while Naran led the Lions with three RBI.
The Lions wrap up the series on Saturday, February 17 with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
