Lions drop series finale against Cobras

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (14-27, 5-19 SAC) was defeated by Coker (25-16, 16-8 SAC) by a score of 8-7 in Sunday's series finale.
Mars Hill opened the scoring in the first, plating five runs. Zach Weaver's two-run home run was followed up later in the frame by Elec Yount's three-run double.
A pair of RBI singles in the top of the second put Coker on the board. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, Alex Naran drew a walk, allowing Trey Putnam to cross home plate and give the Lions a four-run advantage.
In the fourth, a two-run single off the bat of Ick Cirino pulled the Cobras within two. The Cokers added plated three in the top of the seventh to take their first lead of the game, heading into the eighth up 7-6.
Preston Holcomb, with the Lions down 8-6 in the bottom of the eighth, hit a solo home run, but the Lions' bats could not complete the comeback.
Putnam, Holcomb, and Jaden James led the Lions with two hits apiece while Yount led all players with three RBI.
Mars Hill hosts Southern Wesleyan in non-conference play on Tuesday, April 16 at 2 p.m. at Henderson Field.
